General
The start of the day
Children should not arrive before 8.40 am.
At 8.40 am the gates are opened and the children may go into their classrooms. All children should be in class for the start of school at 8.50.
Messages and appointments
Messages for staff can be written in the Home School book (for younger children) or sent in by letter. Teaching staff are required to give their attention to the children who become their responsibility at the start of the day. Appointments should be made via the office where staff availability and commitments can be checked.
Money
Payment for school dinners should be paid in advance (special envelopes are available from the school office). Any other money should always be sent in envelopes clearly marked with name, class and amount.
Medicines
Only prescribed medicines sent in to school can be administered if the appropriate form is completed and handed in to the Office. Parents need to update pupil information held at school, including emergency contact numbers.
Playtimes
At times children of all ages share the playground together, although the very youngest have a smaller fenced area to play in.
Bags, Sandwich Boxes, Break Time and Dinners
Children bringing bags must make sure that they are not large They must serve a purpose. We do not want large bags filling up cloakrooms unnecessarily.
Sandwich boxes should be very clearly marked with the owner’s name and should be placed on the lunch trolley at the start of the day.
At break-time children are welcome to bring fruit, a vegetable or a boxed drink but such needs to be kept separate from sandwich boxes for lunchtime. No crisps or sweets should be brought in for morning break-time.
At lunchtime packed lunches can include crisps and a chocolate biscuit but no fizzy or hot drinks, chocolate bars or sweets. It would also help if cling film isn’t used (some children have a habit of putting it into their mouths). Drink containers should be plastic and not glass.
Lunch Time
Several options are available -Packed Lunch, School Dinners (salad/cooked) or going home. School dinners are cooked on the premises using fresh local produce, menus are sent home on a regular basis.
At the End of the Day
The gate will be unlocked at about 10 minutes before the end of school for those collecting children to come into the playground. Children are dismissed from the cloakrooms/classrooms which face the playgrounds. Staff of younger children hand them over to those collecting them rather than simply “release” them. Older children need a note if they have permission to take a younger brother or sister home.
Clubs
Clubs are very kindly provided by staff in set blocks of time each term. Places are limited however with most clubs available for Key Stage 2 pupils rather than Key Stage 1.
Homework
Children can expect work on any of the following: learning letters, numbers and sight words, spellings, reading, tables, mathematics, research, collecting items to bring in to school, written work or topics. Tasks will generally be closely related to the work being undertaken at the time by the pupils in the classroom.
